Firefighters responded to West Main Street for the four-alarm blaze just after 2:30 p.m., the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office said.
A Somerville police officer and four firefighters suffered minor injuries, officials said. Everyone injured was released from a nearby hospital, authorities said.
Two residents and commercial structures were heavily damaged.
Various outlets said the blaze originated in King Tut's Egyptian restaurant, however, this information could not immediately be verified.
Locals appeared optimistic that the little village of Somerville was filled with people of big enough hearts to help neighbors rebuild.
"It’s material things.. this town is a Village." one person wrote in a Facebook group with more than 22,000 members. "People helping people. It will be fine."
"It’s awful what happened. But let me tell you Somerville will rebuild, recover and be more beautiful and stronger than ever in a few months," another added.
"The people in this community really come together and support one another. I spent a good portion of my childhood there, and still live nearby. And am so grateful for it."
